Subject Title
Microsoft Server Administration

Subject Description
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform administration tasks on a Microsoft Windows Server operating system, on-premise or in a cloud environment. Topics such as designing and implementing a user and group strategy, resource security, protecting data, scripting and using cloud services will be covered through lecture and hands-on exercises.

1 credit (3 units) Required for CSN/CTY – Computer Systems Technician (Ontario College Diploma)

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Install, configure, and optimize a server operating system, either on-premise or in the cloud, to fulfill information technology requirements.
  2. Design an appropriate Active Directory User and Group strategy to ensure ongoing access to resources on a network or server.
  3. Configure security settings to protect server and network resources.
  4. Identify and configure data storage and backup requirements to ensure data integrity.
  5. Evaluate business needs for opportunities to improve efficiency using scripts and cloud technologies.
