Computer Essentials

Subject Description
This course is intended to extend your knowledge and skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level. You will be taking other subjects in which you will make use of the computer as an administrative and communicative tool. Exercises and problems will be industry-related and typical of those encountered in a service delivery organization.

Credit Status
One credit.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:


1. Prepare typical industry-related documents using relevant computer applications.

2. Construct documents which will provide information to support decision-making and problem-solving in a business environment.

3. Identify appropriate application software which is best suited to a given task.

4. Produce documents that meet industry standards for document format, accuracy, spelling and grammar.

5. Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication through the various modes of evaluation.

6. Create engaging presentations using appropriate application software.

7. Use relevant applications for the purposes of online communication.

8. Use correct business etiquette and adhere to professional standards of dress, hygiene and grooming.
