Subject Title
Religion and Culture in Canada

Subject Description
An introduction to sociology which introduces concepts such as culture, socializing, family, religion, ethnicity and race, deviance, organizations, social change, population and aging. The emphasis is on the Canadian multi-cultural society.

Credit Status
One General Education elective credit in the Sciences and Social Sciences category.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. To develop and awareness of some of the major theories and theorist in sociology.
2. To have an increase understanding of the components of culture within our society.
3. Explain the process of socialization and gender and their application to the Canadian multi-cultural society.
4. Understand patterns and social dynamics of the family related to society.
5. Understand some of the issues and problems facing our aging population.
6. The significance of religion in a multi-cultural society and the way in which religious beliefs shape society.
7. Examine people's non-conformity to social norms as well as their conformity to them.
8. Understand the theorical views which will be pursued relative to the position of ethnic groups in our society.
9. Understanding how organizations interact externally with individuals and other organizations in society.
10. Examine how movements for social change are initiated along with the many variables that spell their success or failure.

Communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in the written, spoken and visual form that fulfils the purpose and meets the needs of the audience.
