Subject Title
Systems Studies IV

Subject Description
This is the last of the Systems subjects in the ACF program. This course will employ important day-to-day office productivity tools that are used in businesses at present. Focusing on Spreadsheets and Database, students will develop advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking and problem solving in case scenarios. Students gain experience by applying the skills they are learning to real world situations
 

Credit Status
This subject is a required subject in the Accounting and Finance Diploma program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1.Use MS Excel to:

 a) Create, sort, edit and query tables.
 b) Create a worksheet group and work with multiple worksheets & workbooks.
 c) Consolidate information from multiple worksheets and workbooks.
 d) Summarize data using pivot tables, pivot charts, IFs and Summary IF functions.
 e) Create formulas using logical functions to solve problems.
 f)  Apply calculations and conditional formats to pivot table.
 g) Analyze pivot tables based on data models.
 h) Create lookup tables and apply the lookup function.
 i) Add validation and other rules to improve data integrity.
 j) Create and edit macros.
 k) Create variable data tables and scenarios.
 l) Solve complex business problems using the Solver feature.
 m) Retrieve data from external sources to data models.
 n) Manage table relations in Power Pivot.
 o) Create map presentations.
        


2. Explain the logical and physical database methodologies used in the design and build phases of a relational database.
 
3. Use MS Access to:
a) Create a database.
b) Create tables by designing and importing records from other file types.
c) Create relationships among tables.
d) Maintain and query a database.
e) Create advanced forms and reports.

4. Use Power BI to create reports

5. Explain concepts covered and interpret results for all tasks.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
