Computer Applications

Subject Description
Communicating and managing information is necessary in all aspects of business. Students are introduced to Microsoft Office suite of software, best practices in file management, presentation software, excel spreadsheets the collaborative functionality of Outlook. Students develop knowledge of the various practices and the skills to create, manage, and present information using the tool as well as utilize the tool for collaboration.

This subject will provide the foundation and be a pre-requisite for Business Computer Applications II (SMS310)

Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

  1. Develop self-directed strategies to independently learn and use features of the software in course assignments
  2. Create business presentations while incorporating a variety of PowerPoint features including, but not limited to, graphics, multimedia, different layouts and designs, slide transitions, bullet animation and charts
  3. Conduct data mining by applying Pivot Tables, conditional formatting, creating charts, sorting, filtering and summarizing data.
  4. Design and construct documents using word processing software to support decision making and problem solving in the business environment.
  5. Utilize messaging, scheduling and collaborative functionality of Outlook to enhance collaboration among team members.
