Subject Title
Computer Graphics for Television II

Subject Description
This subject further enhances the students? knowledge of creating visual effects for TV and video in post-production process. Emphasis will be placed on key concepts of plotting, art directing and shooting for special effects. A wide range of specialized topics from split-zone lighting and framing for effects, to Biomorphic modeling and match moving will be covered in this subject. Based on previously learned computer graphics topics and new compositing techniques in this subject, students will be asked to seamlessly integrate live action video, blue screen footage and 2D/3D animation into one special effect sequence. As CGI is being used extensively in feature films, commercials, music videos, and multimedia projects, there is a growing demand for effects artists with good compositing skills. This subject is essentially important for all students especially those who wish to pursue the field of SFX.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Technically assess and describe the steps involved in special effects projects.
2. Setup proper lighting and perform shooting for blue screen.
3. Perform resolution matching for various sources and digital image manipulation techniques.
4. Model and animate 3D objects for virtual sets.
5. Operate image post-processing and compositing software.
6. Design and create story boards for special effects projects.
7. Perform motion tracking of live video to use in animation.
8. Apply advanced keying and masking techniques for FX sequence.
9. Measure, calculate and match virtual camera to live action.
10. Create motion graphics with stills.
11. Perform color correction and filtering layers.
12. Capture and prepare multi-source images for compositing.
13. Perform digital mastering.
