Planning and Controlling the Baseline

Subject Description
In today's competitive business environment project management skills must include the ability to deliver projects on time, on budget, and to the satisfaction of the customer. This subject integrates project management theory with hands-on practice, designed to advance the participant's knowledge and experience in planning and controlling the project scope, schedule and cost using project management software. 

Credit Status
One subject credit towards the graduate certificate in Project Management - Environmental.
 

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Translate a Work Breakdown Structure into project tasks to meet the requirements, objectives, needs and expectations of stakeholders;
  2. Develop a project management software baseline plan to identify, estimate, plan and allocate human plus non-human resources to project activities necessary for the successful achievement of the project objectives;
  3. Use project management software to track project progress against project baseline plan;
  4. Apply the Earned Value Management method to monitor and control performance variances with the project baseline plan to ensure successful achievement of the project objectives;
  5. Use project management software to create status/progress reports and provide forecasts for future performance outcomes.
