Business Sustainability

Subject Description
This subject introduces the student to the complexities of the world of sustainable development by examining its historical, practical, scientific, societal and commercial perspectives.

This subject is an optional professional subject offered to third year students in the Business Adminstration program. This course cannot be used as credit towards the post diploma certificate in Sustainable Development.

Credit Status
One Credit.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the history behind the movement towards Sustainable Development.

2. Discuss the current state of Sustainable Development (which varies by industry and stage of implementation).

3. Demonstrate an understanding of the terminology specific to the field of Sustainable Development by using terms such as greening, eco-footprint and sustainability.

4. Provide a critique of sustainable business practices.

5. Summarize in detail, the business world's impact on our environment by examining and quantifying the drain on our resources by consumers and business.

6. Demonstrate their knowledge of Green Business Practices.

7. Describe the various elements of environmental ethics and their impact on the business world.

8. Outline in detail social cultural influences and the consumer movement's impact on sustainable development.
