Subject Title
Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Subject Description
Innovation and entrepreneurship are increasingly relevant in our 21st century economy and society.  This course will challenge students to think creatively and inspire entrepreneurship when working in an organization or starting your own business.  Students will also gain an understanding of how to maximize Canada's world-class innovation and entrepreneurship support ecosystem.

Credit Status
One credit.

Note: This is a required subject for the Business Diploma Program and the Business Administration Diploma Programs in the School of Business Management.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Distinguish the types of entrepreneurship for alignment with personal values, interests, abilities and goals.
  2. Identify programs and organizations in Canada's entrepreneurship ecosystem that support  innovators' and entrepreneurs' goals.
  3. Generate an idea for an innovative process, product, or service that solves a problem or maximizes an opportunity for an identified community and/or market.
  4. Apply basic research skills to validate an innovation for an identified community and/or market.
  5. Create a narrated e-pitch for an innovative idea by using the elements of storytelling and digital technologies.
  6. Explain the elements of a business plan to understand the business planning process.

Use a variety of thinking skills to anticipate and solve problems.
