Subject Title
Minority Literature and Film

Subject Description
Considering that minorities outnumber those who are deemed a majority, the question arises why we still maintain a division between minorities and a majority. Who is the majority? Who is a minority? We will examine those questions and some of the major themes associated with several minority groups by turning to literature and film and ask if the experiences foregrounded by these minority voices constitute an invitation to think about issues that pertain to the human experience at large.

Credit Status
One lower level Liberal Studies elective credit.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  • Identify issues pertaining to minorities
  • Define and apply terminology pertaining to minorities to promote critical thinking
  • Appraise literature and film with regard to tenets surrounding minorities
  • Develop the practice of questioning for critical thinking
  • Apply sound writing mechanics for academic communication
  • Use MLA format to cite properly
