Subject Title
Reference Processes

Subject Description
Students learn to perform reference. Some of the numerous activities performed by the students include conducting reference interviews, and producing subject guides and other tools to assist library users.

Credit Status
This is a credit subject towards the Library and Information Technician Diploma program offered through the School of Legal, Public and Office Administration.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Develop topic/audience appropriate subject guides.

2. Input content into a LibGuides template.

3. Create bibliographies and use current MLA style guide.

4. Perform reference interviews.

5. Describe principles, processes and methodologies of responding to requests.

6. Perform basic reference processes.

7. Describe variations of the basic reference processes, including remote reference, instruction and current awareness.

8. Discuss influences of library policies, procedures and practices on reference activities.

9. Demonstrate an attitude of professionalism, as evidenced by an ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments and perform tests and in-class assignments as scheduled.
