Italian Language Skills 1

Subject Description
This introductory course is for students with minimal or no previous knowledge of the Italian language. Interactive classroom participation will enable students to acquire the basic skills of fluency (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to communicate in the classroom and in real-life situations.  Cultural awareness is expanded by investigating the unique characteristics of Italian culture in different regions.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Use the Italian language as a tool in various learning contexts;

2. Develop the ability to interpret and respond in Italian when exposed to the language;

3. Initiate and maintain a simple conversation in Italian in a practical context;

3. Communicate meaningfully in Italian to share experiences, express opinions, feelings, and observations;

4. Use the conventions of language appropriately for the purpose, audience, and context;

6. Demonstrate understanding of Italian culture and its impact around the world.

Communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in the written, spoken and visual form that fulfils the purpose and meets the needs of the audience.
