Subject Description
The purpose of this course is to examine the principles, processes and theories involved in the design and administration of compensation programs. Emphasis is placed on linking compensation strategy to corporate strategy, applying behavioural theories in the design of compensation programs and implementing, managing and adapting compensation programs.

Credit Status
One credit.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Describe the role and purpose of a compensation system, explain the link to corporate strategy and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  2. Write a recommendation for a compensation system that is in alignment with the organization's corporate strategy.
  3. Apply the integrated model for human behaviour in the design of a reward system.
  4. Design a compensation for a given organization using market data.
  5. Differentiate between the three main methods for establishing base pay.
  6. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of various types of pay for performance approaches.
  7. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of various methods of job analysis and performance appraisal methods.
  8. Discuss the key stages in compensation administration.
