Business Ethics

Subject Description
This course examines the role of ethics in the business world and ethical dilemmas encountered by managers. Ethical decisions do not take place in a vacuum. Many people, all with their own interests and standards, are involved in business encounters every day. In this course, participants will pay special attention to the relationships among the many and varied stakeholders that have role in business situations. These stakeholders include the market and non-market entities that affect business.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Discuss why business ethics has become a critical issue in today's global business environment.
  2. Identify and describe the stakeholders in a business and explain how business ethics impact each stakeholder.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to apply at least 3-4 different approaches of ethics and in business situations.
  4. Discuss the impact of corporate culture in ethical decision making.
  5. Discuss the ethical issues involved in trade secrets, marketing, advertising, product safety and financial issues in the marketplace.
  6. Explain how ethical behaviour is related to corporate governance and social responsibilities.
  7. Debate different issues related to discrimination and affirmative action, diversity, Occupational Health & Safety, technology & privacy, and whistle blowing within the organization.

    •  Manage the use of time and other resources to complete projects.
