Typography II

Subject Description
The subject continues to develop students' skills in the use and application of text type as both communication and design elements. Students begin will begin to explore the relationship between text and display type in print applications. The students will also begin to address the emotive, aesthetic and communicative value of the combination and contrast of text and display type.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Understand the visual hierarchy of information.
2. Understand the communication message and select an appropriate typeface(s)to assist in conveying the message.
3. Define the relationship between text and display type in print-based applications.
4. Develop a visual aesthetic for a communication objective for a given audience.
5. Identify family classifications of display type.
6. Identify trends in the use of display type.
