Subject Title
Field Placement I for Library Technicians

Subject Description
Students are required to complete a three week field placement to apply the theory and skills they have learned in semesters one and two, and to gain work experience.  A keyboarding speed of 30 w.p.m. (net) is required.

Credit Status
This is a credit subject applicable towards the Library and Information Technician Diploma Program in the School of Legal, Public and Office Administration. It is one of the two 105 hour field placements that students must complete to graduate from the program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Perform tasks reflecting the student's progress in the Library and Information Technician Program to date.
  2. Perform tasks reflective of a specific type of library.
  3. Work under the supervision of a librarian.
  4. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate work habits and attitudes.
  5. Describe the collections, services, facilities and operations of the field placement library.
  6. Discuss the work experience in terms of the student's professional development.

Communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in the written, spoken and visual form that fulfils the purpose and meets the needs of the audience.
