Digital Commerce

Subject Description
Students will gain a solid introduction to digital commerce which is an essential component of a fashion brand's business strategy. Students will learn concepts including unique behavioral aspects of digital consumers, best business practices, design considerations and web analytics. They will use strategic thinking to develop an effective digital commerce plan.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Identify the key components of digital commerce business models;
  2. Identify the challenges faced by different types of online brands;
  3. Evaluate the options for building a customized, in-house website versus an outsourced version for a business;
  4. Explain some ways to increase business functionality through the use of software tools;
  5. Outline the unique behavioural aspects of the digital commerce consumer;
  6. Develop digital commerce marketing strategies and tools;
  7. Identify and be able to use web analytics;
  8. Demonstrate the ability to work within assigned time frames to meet deadlines.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
