Electricity

Subject Description
This subject deals with DC and AC electrical fundamentals including resistive, capacitive and inductive devices, circuit analysis, power grounding, wiring, generators, transformers, motors, motor control and Electrical Code.

Full credit status towards a college program

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Adhere to required electrical safety procedures.

2. Describe volts, amps, resistance and power.

3. Recognize and evaluate switching and isolation gear and procedures.

4. Explain the basic principles of electrons and controlling electron motion.

5. Apply Ohm's Law to determine current, voltage and resistance in circuits.

6. Generate heat, light and electromagnetism using electricity.

7. Use measuring instruments to determine voltage, resistance and current in electrical circuits.

8. Use transformers and rectifiers to modify the flow of electricity.

9. Describe the function of cells and batteries.

10. Define the operating principles of electric motors and generators.

11. Interpret electrical schematics and identify operating components.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
