Subject Title
Planning a New Business Venture

Subject Description
Business plans come in a wide variety of formats that serve many purposes from testing the feasibility of new ideas to convincing investors of the potential for success.  Students will apply different tools as they create a comprehensive formal business plan for a new venture based on their idea for an innovative product and service.  Students will also pitch their ventures in a professional manner.

Credit Status
One credit.

Note: This is a required credit course for the Entrepreneurial and Small Business Management Specialization and a professional option for the other business specializations within the Business Administration Diploma.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of the business plan for a new business venture.
  2. Develop and validate value propositions for business ideas.
  3. Utilize the entrepreneurial resources and programs available in Canada’s innovation ecosystem that best align with a business idea.
  4. Ensure compliance with government regulations and legislation applicable to a new venture.
  5. Write a formal business plan for a new venture to pursue external funding.
  6. Pitch a new product or service to potential investors.
