Subject Title
Modern American Drama

Subject Description
In this three hour a week option course several plays by 20th century American playwrights will be studied. The universal themes of love, identity and family conflict are presented through situations which reflect contemporary American society. Three plays will be studied in depth, and film adaptations of the plays will be shown where possible. Course work will include essays, drama exercises, oral presentations, and discussions of aspects of theatrical production.

Credit Status
One General Education elective credit in the Arts and Humanities category.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

. Demonstrate that they possess a working knowledge of the history of drama and the American stage
. Demonstrate that they possess an understanding of the unique manner in which the study of drama needs to be approached
. Demonstrate that they possess a working knowledge of many of the most influential American playwrights and their works
. Demonstrate thatlthey possess an understanding of drama as a mirror for society
. Demonstrate that they possess an appreciation of theatre!
