Game Engine Techniques

Subject Description
This course expands on basic graphics engine design to include shader programs and lighting techniques. This course also introduces engine design techniques for retrieving user input and interacting with audio hardware to produce 3D sound effects.

Professional Option for BSD - Bachelor of Technology (Software Development)

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

Produce various lighting, shadow, and graphical effects in a game engine using HLSL and GLSL vertex, fragment and geometry shader programs

Implement specular and reflectance algorithms using shader technology

Produce three-dimensional audio effects for a game engine using the following APIs:

  • Direct Sound (DirectX 11)
  • OpenAL 1.1

Process user input to a game engine using the following APIs:

  • Raw Input
  • Xinput
