Subject Description

This course provides skills and knowledge required to configure, troubleshoot and monitor unified (voice, video, data and mobile applications) networks. Students combine theory and hands-on experiences on IP telephony and other Cisco collaboration services, as well open-source telephony software, to support small, medium or large size networks.  

Credit Status
1 credit in the CTY program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

· Optimize the design of a Wide-Area Network (WAN) to solve Quality of Service issues related to voice and video over IP

· Define the major components of the Public Switched telephone System (PSTN) that are related to the VoIP systems

· Choose the correct voice and video compression and codec technologies to facilitate service convergence

· Integrate voice, video, data and mobile applications and standards in a collaborative network

· Apply traffic analysis and planning tools to optimize service performance

· Implement software solutions for integrated IP telephony and video

· Adapt Open-Source software to implement IP telephony and video

· Recognize the impact of voice, video, data and mobile applications integration on the security of the network
