Subject Description

Toronto: Diversity our Strength explores this dynamic city where people, cultures, languages, ideas, and opportunities meet.  Toronto is Canada?s largest and most culturally diverse city. It has an incredible food scene and characteristic neighbourhoods that are like miniature cities in themselves. Let?s explore Toronto to see what makes it such a vibrant city. 


Credit Status
One general education elective credit in the Arts and Humanities category.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  • Discuss significant events that have shaped Toronto’s history 
  • Discuss the unique qualities of some of the neighbourhoods that make up Toronto 
  • Analyse factors that contribute to Toronto’s cultural diversity and social inequities 
  • Explore exhibits and community events at the City’s cultural centres and galleries to highlight the diversity of life in the city 
  • Explain how Toronto’s popular landmarks help to define the city
