Subject Title
Wedding Planner Business

Subject Description
This course will teach you how to become a professional wedding planner. You will examine the role and responsibilities of a professional wedding planner in Canada. The areas of study will include the engagement, budget, invitations, etiquette, gifts, ceremonies, catering and cakes, dresses and the honeymoon. You will also learn the fundamentals of starting and marketing your own wedding planning business.

One credit in the  Hospitality – Hotel and Restaurant Services Management (HTM)

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Describe the role of a Wedding Planner and correctly use terminology associated with wedding planning.
2. Demonstrate effective communication and sales skills as they relate to wedding planning.
3. Conduct a needs assessment that takes account of client requirements, culture, budget and theme.
4. Prepare a budget, complete appropriate documentation and follow a reconciliation process for a given event.
5. Evaluate and recommend vendors, venues and F&B services to meet identified criteria.
6. Create schedules, stationery and checklists for wedding events.
7. Discuss the types of special situations, scenarios, parties or locations that may occur, and how to resolve them.
8. Recognize challenges, identify potential solutions and follow up until resolved.
9. Identify the steps and requirements necessary to register a small business in Ontario.
10. Use correct business etiquette and adhere to professional standards of dress, hygiene and grooming.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.

Mode of Instruction

Courses will be delivered using an online mode of instruction.

Punctuality
Students must be punctual for all participatory classes (i.e. Collaborate, Skype, WebEx or Zoom). These sessions may be infrequent; however, the class will begin according to the posted schedule start time.
