Subject Title
Art and Well-Being

Subject Description
This course is a practical guide for students in how to use the artistic process as a  positive and life-affirming force in their daily life. Historical contexts and various cultural models are examined for their use of creativity, inspiration, improvisation and play to enrich not only the personal lives of individuals but to further the cultural development and maturation of societies in general.

Through the appropriate uses of sound, light, color, movement, pattern and symbol, measurable transformations in physiological and psychological responses have been noted in several respected studies. We are also discovering that various forms of art, music, dance, and poetry have profound healing effects and we will examine how the transformational power of art has recently been brought into many innovative health-care systems world-wide and into the community at large.
