Subject Title
Marketing Strategy and Analysis

Subject Description
This subject uses case analysis, workshops and the preparation of a comprehensive marketing plan to apply related marketing theory and concepts to the creation of effective marketing strategies. Students will analyze and evaluate strategic alternatives and practice strategic marketing management decision making. 

Credit Status
MRK428 is a full credit subject for both the 2-year (Business - Marketing) and 3-year (Business Administration - Marketing) Diploma Programs. 

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

1. Conduct a SWOT Analysis to identify and evaluate market opportunities.

2. Apply knowledge of trends in consumer attitudes and behaviour to marketing planning.

3. Formulate a marketing plan that identifies both qualitative and quantitative marketing objectives; marketing strategy; an implementation schedule, proposed budget and risk management and control and evaluation criteria/mechanisms.

4. Employ research data and the principles of risk management to support the financial components of a marketing plan (i.e. sales projections, costs, etc.)

5. Evaluate strategies for developing new and modified products in response to changing market conditions.

6. Evaluate alternative distribution strategies to efficiently and effectively manage the supply chain.

7. Create distribution strategies to achieve place objectives

8. Develop both long and short term pricing strategies that take into consideration, buyer behaviour; demand, cost and competitive factors; product assortment; and ethical and legal implications in order to achieve specific organizational objectives.

9. Demonstrate ethical and socially responsible behaviour in marketing strategy and planning.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.

Mode of Instruction
The primary mode of instruction is the case study method. Specific cases are assigned and students are expected to lead discussion on the assigned cases. Analysis, interpretation, drawing conclusions and making recommendations are integral skills in leading case discussions.
 
Secondary mode of instruction include lectures and relevant video materials.
